What's Happening

Scams, Files, WiFi & Learning:
Skits Maps Out May

Summer is coming, and with it comes the annual wave of travel scams, lost vacation photos, and slow WiFi right when you're trying to stream the game on the porch. This month Skits is tackling all of it — one topic per week, plus a brand-new course library so you can keep learning long after the newsletter lands.

Skits' May Lineup

Skits here. Here's what I'm digging into each week this month — jump in wherever it helps.

Each week comes with a fresh blog post — click any card to read it.

Week 1 · May 3–9

Scam Season Is Here →

Travel scams, fake delivery texts, and the phishing emails spiking every summer — how to spot them before you click.

Week 2 · May 10–16

Where Did My File Go? →

File Explorer, Downloads folder, and OneDrive — where your computer actually hides things, and how to never lose a photo again.

Week 3 · May 17–23

Why Is Everything So Slow? →

Internet vs. WiFi (they're not the same), the 30-second router reset, and the free fixes your ISP won't tell you about.

Week 4 · May 24–30

You Don't Need a Degree — Just 10 Minutes →

The full SKTS course catalog opens up: 13 free courses, 10 minutes each. Pick one and feel confident with your tech.

FROM

Jerry

Folks, I want you to meet Skits.

He's been helping me around the shop for a while, and this month I'm making it official — Skits is our new Community Support Specialist. His office is open 24/7 at sharedknowledgets.com/tech-help-with-skits, and he's happy to help you figure out if an email is a scam, point you to the best learning resource for whatever's bugging you, or just answer a quick tech question without making you feel silly for asking.

Skits He's patient, he's kind, and he never judges. I hired him for a reason: I figured out a long time ago that the people who learn to fix things themselves are the same people who trust you most when they CAN'T fix it. Skits helps people learn. That's what we do around here.

Stop in and say hi — I think you two are going to get along.

⚡ Tips & Tricks from Skits

Four Things I'd Teach You Over Coffee

Scam Check

Hover before you click.

On a computer, hover your mouse over any link in an email — the real destination shows at the bottom of the screen. If it doesn't match who the email says it's from, don't click.

Find Files Fast

Windows key + E.

Opens File Explorer instantly, no matter what you're doing. The fastest way to get to your Downloads, Documents, or Pictures folder.

WiFi Wisdom

Router on the floor?

Move it up. Put it chest-height or higher, out of the closet, and in the middle of the house. WiFi beams outward — a router in the basement corner is fighting physics.

Closed a Tab?

Ctrl + Shift + T.

Accidentally closed that browser tab you were reading? This shortcut brings it back. Press it again to reopen the one before. A lifesaver.

Scam Alert

Summer Travel Scams Are Spiking

Fake vacation rentals, bogus flight-change emails, too-good resort deals. Quick rules: never pay via wire transfer or gift cards, always type the booking URL yourself, and if a 5-star resort is $39/night — it's not a deal.
